Workplace safety data reinforces this finding. A large 20-year prospective study in Sweden tracking nearly 50,000 individuals found that those reporting disturbed sleep were nearly twice as likely to die in a work-related accident. Highly fatigued workers were 70 percent more likely to be involved in workplace accidents than those reporting low fatigue levels. The U.S. alone loses approximately 1.2 million working days per year to sleep-related issues.
