Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about sleep science, bone conduction technology, and how Sonopeace helps you rest deeper.
Understanding Sleep
What is WASO and why does it matter?
WASO stands for Wake After Sleep Onset, the total time you spend awake after initially falling asleep. It's one of the most important metrics sleep scientists use to measure sleep quality.
High WASO (more than 30 minutes per night) is associated with daytime fatigue, impaired cognitive function, weakened immune response, and increased risk of chronic health conditions.
Why do I wake up in the middle of the night?
Middle-of-the-night awakenings can have many causes:
- Light sleep cycles, we naturally cycle through lighter sleep phases every 90 minutes
- Stress and anxiety, an overactive mind can pull you from sleep
- Environmental factors, temperature, noise, or light disturbances
- Age-related changes, sleep architecture naturally shifts as we get older
Sonopeace works by delivering gentle, scientifically-optimized frequencies that help your brain maintain deeper sleep states.
What are delta waves and deep sleep?
Delta waves are the slowest brain waves (0.5–4 Hz), produced during the deepest stages of non-REM sleep. This deep sleep phase is when your body performs essential restoration:
- Physical repair and growth hormone release
- Immune system strengthening
- Memory consolidation and learning
- Cellular regeneration and toxin clearance
How much deep sleep do I need?
Most adults need approximately 1–2 hours of deep sleep per night, typically representing 15–25% of your total sleep time.
Signs you may not be getting enough include waking up tired despite sleeping 7–8 hours, afternoon energy crashes, difficulty concentrating, and frequent illness.
How Sonopeace Works
How does bone conduction technology work?
Unlike traditional speakers that transmit sound through the air to your eardrums, bone conduction delivers gentle vibrations directly through the bones of your skull to your inner ear (cochlea). Advantages include:
- Nothing in your ears, no uncomfortable earbuds to wear all night
- Partner-friendly, sound doesn't travel through air, so it won't disturb anyone beside you
- Awareness preserved, you can still hear alarms, children, or important sounds
- Direct neural pathway, frequencies reach your auditory system more efficiently
Is it safe to use every night?
Yes. The bone-conduction frequencies are gentle, non-invasive, and within established safety guidelines. Clinical trials with extended use showed no adverse effects.
Many users report cumulative benefits, the longer they use Sonopeace, the better their sleep becomes.
How long until I see results?
Most users notice improvements within 1–2 weeks:
- First few nights, falling asleep more easily
- Week 1, reduced nighttime awakenings
- Weeks 2–4, improved morning energy
- Month 1+, full benefits as sleep patterns stabilize
We recommend 30 nights of consistent use, which is why we offer a 30-night sleep trial.
Do I need to wear headphones?
No headphones or earbuds required. Sonopeace uses a lightweight design that rests gently under your pillow. The bone-conduction transducers deliver frequencies through minimal contact. No ear canal pressure, no tangled wires, and no discomfort when sleeping on your side.
What does the clinical study show?
Our clinical research demonstrates significant improvements:
- 106% more improvement in sleep-related impairment vs placebo (PROMIS, p=0.020)
- 11% increase in deep sleep duration (p=0.017)
- 37% of participants achieved full remission from clinical insomnia
- No adverse effects reported
These findings come from a double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study with 35 participants.
